I've heard time and time again that BlogHer is a great resource for bloggers, and a wonderful community to get involved in. So I signed up a few weeks ago, and have no idea what to do next!
I've googled how other bloggers use it, and from what I understand, users either: 1. Repost an article from their blog, word for word. (that doesn't quite feel right to me, I think BlogHer expects original content, right?) 2. Post a teaser, like the first paragraph from a post and then put a "click here to read more" like that takes the reader to their blog. (same as above, and this feels kind of spammy) 3. Post entirely new content. (but isn't this like starting a whole new blog?) 4. Rework posts into summaries, round ups and similar with lots of links back to their blog. (like "my top favorite attractions in Rome" linking to individual posts on each attraction listed - I like this idea the most so far)
I'm also leery to get invested in a new blogging/social platform, and I'm not terribly interested in using BlogHer as a way to follow other blogs (I'd rather stick to the platforms I'm already using). I'm afraid I'll get overwhelmed!
So to any BlogHer gurus and social media mavens out there: What do you post on BlogHer? How did you get noticed? Any weird tips that you'd be willing to share with a poor BlogHer newbie?
thanks for your advice, and I can't wait to read your responses!!

You can submit your posts to BlogHer and if they like it they will syndicate your content. You can also apply for their Influencer Network. I was accepted but have not done any work yet. The other thing you can do is sign up for their Publishing Network. I was not accepted at this time for that. They are a bit picky from what I understand, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I am submitting content for syndication but nothing has been accepted yet. So I guess I will keep trying. The first step is to set up an account with them as a blogger. Hope this helps a bit. You can Google it and read about it. That is what I did in the beginning.

I have been a member of BlogHer off and on for a few years and there are still things I have questions about. Here is what I have learned. Like Tina said above me, BlogHer can syndicate your posts, but you have do have to submit each and every post individually that you would like them to see. You can read more about that here: www.blogher.com/marketplace/opportunities/syndication/apply They do tell you it will take up to 30 days to hear back from them, IF they choose your content. I have submitted numerous posts and haven't been lucky enough to get syndicated, but I always try! I am also a member of their Influencer Network, but it hasn't done me any good and I'm really not sure the point of it unless you like to market things. I think this is something I need to read more about too because I'm not sure I'm using it correctly.. Hopefully someone out there can chime in on this! I am also on their Publishing Network and basically what that means is they put ad's on your site and you get paid on the amount of traffic you get depending on the ad displayed at the time. The good thing about this?? People don't have to click on the ad for you to make money, the bad thing?? Sometimes they just have free space (for example a charity ad) and you wont get paid for the traffic you have to your blog when those are running. Each ad has a different pay amount and they are all pretty tiny. You get to cash out once you reach $30, and when your only getting a few cents every day it can take awhile to add up. The other part of BlogHer is they ask to you participate in surveys. I have only received two emails like this and I think they use them just to gauge their readers. They are not paid, but I think some could be??? Not sure on that either. If you find out any info pass it on! I know there is much more I don't know either!!

I've often wondered the same thing. I think it's best to create new content and be sure to link to relevant posts of your own.
