Heyo! I'm Alyssa and I'm in the pre-launch stage with my blog A Good Courage! I'm very excited to learn and network with the SITS community, you guys are great!
So many things have fallen perfectly into place in starting this blog, the name choice, the hosting provider, already having a fairly well-established personal social media presence, and having a mind bursting at the seams with ideas and opinions best expressed in a blogging format.
There is one thing, however, that I'm not certain about, and couldn't find a SITS post about it. The first post. Kind of exciting but nerve-wracking simultaneously for me.
My blog will be largely autobiographical and will serve as a receptacle for my photojournaling, musings on life lessons, discussions on topics about which I'm passionate and knowledgeable, as well as some homeschooling and recipe posts, likely on a weekly basis (Homeschool Saturdays or From the Kitchen Fridays, for instance). So, I'm still trying to develop a neatly-packaged description and mission statement for my blog. Because of that, I have no idea how I should go about that ever-important inaugural post.
I've looked around at some of my favorite bloggers. Their first posts, as far as I can tell by overriding their page to peek through old posts (archive widget, people!), are generally diving right in with a recipe or a topic post. I have a post that could be just a little inflammatory but very thoughtful and *might* be good to dive in with, but I've had friends suggest otherwise. I'm lost on this one!
Do I go in-media-res and dive right into what would become regularly featured content and explain my background and stances along the way? Do I dare to sum up my life and mission in a post while trying to keep it from becoming a novel (which is hard for me to do with anything)? Do I start with a bang and make an exciting opinion post that will have much of my style and flavor and beliefs infused in it and incite discussion on that topic?
Right now I am loading up my Evernote app with content ideas and making viable content out of each note so that I have a large stash of posts to schedule from the get-go, so there won't be any lag in posting activity. But it's just that first post! I mean, you can only have one, and it's got to be good!
Any ideas or examples of your first post would be tremendously appreciated!
