Some time ago, I thought I was getting serious about blogging and picked out a "cute" theme that wasn't really functional for me. The theme I chose was Family Tree. I had a web designer make some tweaks. Then hired a blog designer start work and they closed up shop. My blog is really not functional at the moment.
What theme would you recommend to someone with who isn't tech savvy but can catch on with some assistance?
I want something that's fairly easy to work with as I'm learning this new world.

There are literally millions of themes out there. What are you looking for? What features do you want/need? Do you want a theme to be a framework for customizations? Then I'd recommend Shoestrap. It has TONS of theme options, you need never touch code, best of all it's completely FREE and open source. Do you want a theme that's popular? Try Avada. The most popular theme on ThemeForest. Do you want a paid framework theme with tons of child theme options? Try Genesis. (From what themes I've seen it has way less theme options than Shoestrap, so if Shoestrap is too much for you this might work). Do you want a trendy parallax theme? No idea? Here's what's popular on ThemeForest.Do you want something custom, that really represents your blog and your blog's brand? Hire a designer. I really think this is the best option in most cases, you can spend all the time in the world tweaking a theme, but if it wasn't intended to take into account the needs of your readers and your blog's style and brand you can spend all your time/money on tweaks when you could have saved yourself the trouble and gotten a custom solution.

It really depends on what you want it to look like and what you want it to do.

It really depends on what your looking for in a theme. Before purchasing or downloading it, you need to assess what needs your site has, i.e commerce, portfolio, etc. I'm a web designer and developer, so I actually build custom themes. I also make pre-made themes that are ready for download. I'm available for custom jobs, you can contact me at here for more information. You can check out my premade themes here. Good luck!
