Do you have a WordPress blog but have no idea what plugins you should be using or why? Here are The Top 5 FREE WordPress Plugins I use on almost every WordPress based website I manage (and where to get them).
1. WordPress SEO by Team Yoast
SEO or Search Engine Optimization is very important for your blog. You want people to be able to find you and you need the best possible tools to help Google, help you. This plugin allows you to completely control how your SEO is managed – including how your posts appear to others on social media. Best part is that it’ll grade your SEO for you and give you direction as to how you can improve.
2. Akismet by Automatic
Protect your blog from spam. Akismet knows its stuff and does an excellent job of keeping the comments about viagra and other “special offer” spam comments to a minimum. WordPress comes with this plugin by default – that’s how important and amazing it is. Be sure to activate it and use it!
3. Disqus Comment System by Disqus
A great way to make your blog apart of a community. This system makes it super easy for readers to comment and follow along with the conversation, keeping them further engaged. My favorite part is that you can follow other commenters and participate in other conversations with them!
4. nrelate Related Content by nrelate and SlipFire
The absolute best way to keep readers on your page (aside from great content) is to provide them with more content that is relevant or like the post they are already on. Although there are other similar systems such as LinkWithin, this one is my favorite. I’ve found that it does a better job of offering relevant content to my readers and offers much more control over its use and style.
5. Revision Control by Dion Hulse
So much can bog down the load time of your website. Don’t let it be you! Revision Control does the work of deleting older revisions of your posts for you so you aren’t cluttering up your database with revisions that include only small changes in grammatical errors. You can tell it to delete a revision more than X amount of changes ago. Brilliant!
