I am currently a Blogger users and considering migrating my current blog to word press. I have my domain name and narrowed down to two hosts. What advice would you give me? What shall I consider when migrating? What tips could you share with someone like me? Should I do it all myself or hire a third party to move my content over? What plug-ins should I install before I even go live? Any feedback is appreciated. Please share your experience.

Follow the directions very carefully. You don't want to lose your permalinks and there's a specific way to do it so that you don't. Should you hire someone? Maybe. It all depends on your level of comfort with this sort of thing. There's a lot of web mumbo jumbo jargon that even someone with years of experience with WordPress, isn't always savvy on Plugins: This depends on the theme you choose. Some come with plugins either installed or designed specifically for it. For example, on my blog www.KimiWho.com it has a few plugins/widgets that came in the package with a theme I purchased - namely my Instagram and Twitter widgets. Otherwise, I strongly suggest WordPress SEO by Yoast - Control exactly what you want your blog to output socially per page and post. Akismet to rid yourself of lots of spam Disqus for comments nrelate Related Content for suggesting other posts to your readers Revision Control - Controls how many revisions of your posts it saves to your database so you use less space

What about email newsletters do you use the code that is offered by Mailchimp for subscription or is there something else? I'd like to have a pop up, but I'd like to serve it when a user is leaving the site, I am not sure if mailchimp has that capability. I know they enable sign-up pop ups.

What is the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org?
I signed up directly with Bluehost and purchased a domain name.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret because I quite literally JUST went through hell with MailChimp last night. I was struggling with the fact that I did not like the way their embed code worked with my theme, nor was I impressed with their widget. I don't personally care for pop-ups. I'm not going to lie... apparently they work. But I can't stand them so I don't have one on my blog. I don't know of a plugin that can give you those results off the top of my head. But if you want a REALLY nice looking newsletter plugin, check out the one I just installed on my blog www.KimiWho.comThe plugin is called Easy Opt-ins For Mailchimp by FatCat Apps. It's FABULOUS and you can customize the colors.

What is the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org? I signed up directly with Bluehost and purchased a domain name. WordPress.com is similar to Blogger in the sense that they host your blog for you. It's the same free software, without the ability to fully control everything. WordPress.org is where you can download the software to host it yourself. I believe BlueHost has a way to "5 minute install" WordPress for you in the CPanel they provide. Once you have WordPress installed, you should be able to import everything.

I want to put a subscribe to my posts on my blog but how do I do so? I have an "email me" widget installed but not sure how to install a widget that would allow my readers to get my posts via email/get on an email list.

I want to put a subscribe to my posts on my blog but how do I do so? I have an "email me" widget installed but not sure how to install a widget that would allow my readers to get my posts via email/get on an email list. The Jetpack plugin has that option. Install (or activate) the jetpack plugin then go to jetpack > Settings and enable the subscribe to blog & subscribe to comment options. The widget will then be visible in your widgets, add it to your sidebar or wherever you want it.

Thank you! I will give it a try.
I am now having an issue with installing Disqus commenting app. I activated the plug in and now is asking me to configure. I have an account already from previously commenting on other blogs who have this feature. It asks to type in username and password I typed in my email address and password and it won't work? Not sure what I am supposed to do at this point? Am I missing something?

Never mind, got it installed, but the print looks very "faint", how do I make the font look darker?

Interesting. I just checked out your website and I see what you mean. There is a setting section on Disqus.com where you can tell it what sort of background you are working with. You want to choose 'Light' and save it. If that doesn't fix it, I assume it's something related to your stylesheet.

Question: Can you switch from blogger to Wordpress without losing your statistics and comments?

You can migrate your comments as far as I know. I'm not sure what you mean by statistics?
