Happy Wednesday, everyone!
So today's topic is all about making money with your blog. As the newsletter said, there are so many ways to do this... By creating e books, doing sponsored posts, joining ad networks, etc...
I really love this aspect of blogging. Not *just* because that means money but it really pushes me to reach for my full potential. I'm in the process of putting together an e book and it's been both challenging and exhilarating. If you would have told me 10 years ago that I'd be making money writing ebooks, I probably would have laughed {because 10 years ago I was still convinced that I was going to be the next day time television super star. That's just between us, okay?}

Erin, I can still see you making it to TV. I have seen a few of my blogger friends on TV lately with Good Morning America. You're right there are many ways to make money with your blog. I've found that sponsored posts, advertising and affiliate marketing are my main money makers. In 2015, I am going to put a shift in the way I make money from less sponsored posts (I want to be able to write more of the things I truly am passionate about verses what the sponsor wants me to focus on!) I dipped my hand into the e-book bit, but found that really isn't my calling YET. Here is a great resource: bugsandbeans.com/2014/05/make-money-blogging-80-media-companies-bloggers-should-join.html

I am a Kiwi Citizen, who is temporarily in the US (At least it is temporary for now... things could change!!). So options for making money of my blog are quite minimal. I don't know how to approach sponsored posts (or how it really works) and my blog is still too new to attempt making an ebook. I do want to be a food writer as it is one of my ultimate goals. For now, I think I'm looking into Amazon Affliate links... is that a good idea? how does it work?

Ha! I recently made the switch from doing review posts and sponsored posts to only blogging what I'm passionate about and it's been such a hugely gratifying experience. I still do take sponsors but ONLY if it directly correlates with something I'm blogging about. I think that makes my blogging more authentic, you know what I mean?

With Amazon affiliates, when you sign up, you can link to any product there with an affiliate "tag" on the link which will give you compensation when someone purchases. The good thing is that if they end up clicking something else on Amazon and buying something else, you still get the commission on it. The bad news is that the commission really sucks. (at least mine does, it is only 4%) Commission Junction and Share a sale allow you to sign up with specific companies and get commission when someone buys a product from their site and the commission is usually much larger. I also use skim links and viglink. They don't do much for my food blog, but I get an okay amount on my other blog with them.
Adsense is okay to start because it is easy to set up, but if you can get with Mode or federated media, you can get paid a lot more from ad impressions.. BlogHer used to be good, but last month was terrible in pay and this month looks even worse for me.

I have fallen short in that area a lot. I want to write about what I love and appreciate more. I know in 2015, I'm going to switch gears and see how it works for us. I think it may be way better. I'm praying that I'm right because our family depends on my income to survive (which is one of the reasons I have gotten off that track.)

I did start with Adsense, but they said I don;t qualify (not sure why) and de activated my account. I am trying to find other ways. I might look into Mode or Federated Media (once I find out what they are!! haha!) thank you so much for your help!

I have a few ad companies on my blog, adsense and also amazon. I have applied to all the companies for sponsored posts and nothing. I would be interested in doing an ebook, but don't know what exactly on yet. I have changed my mind a few times. I think I just need that once break for it to snowball. I have not received even one check yet from all my ads and links. So just looking for constructive advice.

Candi, my best advice is to keep applying! Keep adding beautiful content to your blog and networking. I'm sure you'll see a return on the effort <3
