I have been writing my blog for awhile and I think I'm ready to move over to YouTube.
What type of Camcorder should I purchase to product great quality videos? I'm going to be doing reviews, tutorials, etc.
Any other advice about become a Youtuber?

I was hoping to find some great tips in this thread as I'm in a similar spot. I've been doing a lot of research though and it seems to begin with many people just use a smartphone with a cheap tripod, as long as the smartphone can do 720p (which is most these days). The only purchase required is a clip on mic with a long cable that can plug into the phone, which is usually under $20.

Hey there I also did YouTube for a while, and in my opinion, it is more important that your audience can watch you on wide screen than on which level your video quality is - for a start, at least. I would advise you to spend the money you can save with a relatively cheaper cam corder in buying an editing software. I don't have one yet, which is why I don't make videos at the moment, but from many YouTubers I heard that Sony Vegas, Final Cut Pro and similar work pretty well for YouTubers. I used Windows Movie Maker, which wasn't able to edit my video format (which sucks, but WMM made me learn a lot by myself), but if you're fortunate and have an iMac etc., you can use iMovie which is good for a start as well. The advice I can give you about the whole YouTube thing is that your intention shouldn't be to become "big" on YouTube. Do it for yourself and be brave to share parts of your life, if you feel confident with doing that. It really takes a lot to put up a video on that platform once in a while, but if you already have some nice internet friends, connecting with them is easy Don't let negative comments take you down. One negative comment weighs as much as ten positive, which is crazy, but that's how the human mind works. Just keep up what you're doing if more people like than dislike it, I guess. Have fun!

Nice tip about the wide screen, Jean. I'd never have thought of that. Thanks!
