Hi there, I'm Melissa Roy of Beyond Mommying. My blog covers everything parenting. My background is in dance and early childhood education. We are a homeschooling family that loves to travel and I am passionate about car seat safety, breastfeeding and women's rights in pregnancy and birth. I write about all these things and more! I'm currently in a slump with my monthly views and visitors (since September) and am looking for advice on no only how to get more people to visit my site but also to get them to engage more. I rarely get comments or shares and would really like to get my readers more active! I share all my new posts on Facebook and as many as I can on Pinterest. I don't get a lot of traffic from Twitter or google+ so I'm not as consistent sharing there. I've also tried StumbleUpon and don't get anything back from it. I also read other blogs and comment as much as I have time. Any other places I should be sharing my stuff? My blog is: www.beyondmommying.com/blog/what-its-all-about/Thanks for the help :]

Hi Melissa ( beyondmommying), I think you're doing some good things that will hopefully have some payoff for you soon. I've found that participating in linkups has been a fun way for me to get more views and comments. SITS had a good list of linkups a little while ago. Check it out and see if you can promote your posts in any of these: www.thesitsgirls.com/blogging/best-link-parties-help-grow-blog/Also, as a completely shameless plug, my friend Lisa and I host #TuesdayTen which is a list of ten things pertaining to a specific topic each Tuesday. This week the topic is 10 things we love about fall. Next Tuesday it will be 10 things on your lifetime bucket list. We'd love to have more participants and the people who participate have been really good at commenting on each other's posts. Check it out here: www.thelieberfamily.com/2014/11/tuesdayten-can-you-fall-love.html

I don't worry about comments. I've been focusing on building my community on Facebook and that's where I get comments on my posts. Ask opinions! Everyone has one, right?
Especially if it is somewhat controversial.
This weekend, I posted about the story of the woman getting attacked for criticizing a child's tantrum. Many comments on Facebook & I posted links to my blog posts about tantrums in the comments.
It's tricky! Sometimes I think that a post will strike a chord & it falls flat & then out of nowhere, a huge website will discuss my post with a link.

Hi, I'm Renee from Little Earthling Blog (formerly A Baker's Dozen and Apollo XIV). I could have written everything Melissa said. I have a group of engaged community members...but can't seem to grow much beyond that. I am participating in a weekly link-up and have found a few new followers that way. I am open to any tips on engagement and community building. www.bakersdozenandapolloxiv.com

Unlike foster2forever, I get comments from my posts on my blog, not on my Facebook page. I don't have a ton of readers, but they are loyal. It's a reciprocal relationship - I read and comment on lots of blogs. Most of "my tribe" is from link ups I participate in (Finish the Sentence Friday and Rabia's Tuesday Ten), and from people I've met in the SITS girls.
One thing I am guilty of sometimes is just posting links on social media. But you really need to engage with people on FB, Twitter, Pinterest (pinning others' pins). That's when you'll make relationships, not when you just post links to your posts.
Building community is tough - we are all so busy, and it's hard to make one little blog stand out from the pack. It's definitely an uphill battle!

littleearthling What I had to do was to set aside 10 minutes several times a day to check up on my social media networks. I check my notifications and reply to things there first. If I have time left over I can seek out engagement with someone else. I have a list of blogging buddies on Twitter that I check first so I can answer questions or RT things from there first. I don't have all the answers, but those two things have worked fr me.

I recently had a mini breakthrough on the questions that I am asking on my blog posts and Facebook. After reading the article posted on SITS this past weekend about getting more Facebook engagement, I realized that my questions required too much thought from readers. Since then, I've been asking questions that can be answered with a simple yes or no. Such as, "Can you drink coffee in the evening and still fall asleep?". I've been getting a lot more engagement with these and most people elaborate on the answer.
