Working a full-time job and running 2 craft blogs leaves me little time to spend on researching ways to get paid advertisers, affiliate links. Recently signed up with Amazon Affiliate but I need solid advice on moving forward and trying to turn a profit. Would love an "inspection". wavingmywand.blogspot.com

I make a little from Amazon Affiliate. I use an affiliate link for children's book and some craft items I mention on posts. Is that how you use them wavingmywand?

Hi Terri - Your header is really beautiful, but I would consider slimming it down and getting rid of the picture of you in it. When I land on your blog, it's all I see and I miss all of your beautiful content! You could put a smaller photo of yourself in top of the sidebar with a bit of info about you, with a link to an About Me page. I would also consolidate all of your social media widgets into a few icons which load faster and look more cohesive. Kelly asideofsweet.com

Hi Terri! Great crafting! I agree with Kelly about your header and About Me section. I notice you have an About Me widget farther down in your sidebar. I'd consider moving it up to the very top. Also, about your header, what about removing the .blogspot.com part and just using the title: Waving My Wand. And maybe removing the "created by Terri...."? I'd then suggest putting your tagline up closer to your logo & title and using a bigger, complementary font. Also, it takes a while to scroll down to the bottom of your blog. Maybe consider showing only a few posts on the home page? Those are just my opinions on aesthetics and don't really answer your question about affiliates. I'm not qualified to speak about affiliates, since I don't currently use any. Are you subscribed to some of the really good "how to blog" sites? Those are so helpful. Thanks for all the great advice and how-to links. As for amazon affiliate, I currently just have a few ads, no word linking yet. Looks like I need to make a few fixes for appearance.

wavingmywand I'm an Amazon affiliate too (I affiliate for other programs also). Love the Amazon program, have been making daily sales since last year and I'm just coming up to the 8% commission level for this month (hoping to finish the month on 8.5%, but that's a whole heap of sales away). I don't have a ton of content on my sites or traffic for that matter, but I do spend a lot of time creating content that's highly targeted to my audience. Your audience of crafters are looking for DIY projects. They aren't going to be interested in your picks or that Amazon banner at the top of your page. Personally, I'd remove those. If you want to attract shoppers, then you need to target the right group with the right content (who are in the right part of the buying cycle) and add your affiliate links into that content. For example, you could create a post about essential crafting supplies and link out to the products you mention in the post. Or you could write a gift list - Top Gift Ideas for Crafters or Books for Crafters - once again including relevant affiliate links within the post. There's a ton more to it. I suggest swotting up on affiliate marketing (if it's something you want to get serious about). It took me months learn this stuff and I'm still learning. Here's a great guide on amazon affiliate marketing to help get you started: www.problogger.net/archives/2013/04/24/the-ultimate-guide-to-making-money-with-the-amazon-affiliate-program/
